Right now on the Ohio River the National Weather Service has forecast Cannelton Dam to be steady for the next 3 days. Newburgh Dam is at 13.6 ft. and is expected to rise .3 ft. by Tues Sept. 1st and then fall to 13.0 ft. by Sat. Sept. 5th. J.T. Myers Dam is expected to hold steady for the next 6 days.
Stripers and White Bass-
Finally!! the stripers are starting to show up and the dams and are tearing up the jerk baits and spoons. It should just get better from here till winter for them as the water starts to cool and the bait moves up river. White Bass fishing has been mediocre at best but should gradually get better.
Catfish-
The blues are biting real well at night and especially while drifting and trolling while using cut shad and skipjack. The fish are finally making that transition to deep water and becoming more and more aggressive. Again the channel cats have been biting extremely well on G & S cheese bait and fresh cut shad. Most of my clients this year have had no problem taking home a cooler full of “eating” size fish.
Don’t forget to book your Sauger trip around Thanksgiving time because that is when the fishing for them gets HOT!
